Introduction to Effective Partnerships & Partnership Working - 1 day Workshop

Overview

This workshop will explore the main principles of partnership bidding & development; why partnership bidding is now more frequent; what the policies drivers and underlying aims are. It will also look at key issues in partnership bidding and development, the differences between partnerships and consortia, the advantages and disadvantages of partnerships; partnership funding sources; partnership and service level agreements; case studies; resources for partnership bidding and development; and sources of further information.

Delegates will take part in group exercises throughout the day and will also receive a broad range of supporting documentation and information on a CD in relation to effective partnership development.

Content

This workshop utilises a range of learning strategies to explore partnership development.

Learning Objectives:

It is anticipated that the delegates will understand or achieve the following, by the end of the workshop:

  • Improve their knowledge and understanding of effective partnership development
  • Gain an understanding of partnership development structures
  • Understand the essentials of partnership agreements
  • Gain knowledge of partnership development funding and resources
  • Recognise the importance of  pre-contract development work

  • Main policy drivers and new development like the ‘Big Society’
  • Definitions of partnerships
  • Rights and responsibilities of all partners
  • Partnership arrangements, agreements and service level agreements
  • Advantages and disadvantages of partnership structures
  • When things go wrong!
  • Ensuring delivery
  • Consortia
  • Case studies
  • Identification of growth areas in partnerships and other development areas
  • Resources and funding for partnership development

Facilitator

The Facilitator is a London based trainer and consultant with over 20 years experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors. He is an approved consultant for the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and previously a visiting lecturer/ research associate at the University of Central Lancashire in Community Regeneration and Health, in the Health & Ethnicity Unit.

He is a graduate and qualified trainer, who has developed & delivered fundraising training programmes for many community and non-profit making organisations & regularly writes and researches funding proposal for community groups, local authorities, social enterprises and universities & colleges. He has also undertaken consultancy work with several housing associations and works as an Independent Tenant Adviser on fundraising to tenants & residents groups in London.

Currently working with a range of third sector organisations on various public Funding programmes to research funding sources and other development opportunities. He has significant experience of working on and managing EU funding programmes, especially ESF and is also an associate member of both the Institute of Fundraising & the Institute of Economic Development.
