Staff Appraisals - Accessing the Benefits

Overview

When approached correctly staff appraisals can be a highly effective tool that can contribute significantly to an individual's development but also and often more importantly to improved organisational performance. Appraisals can also deliver real and practical benefits to the individual's line manager. Many organisations conduct appraisals with little thought about the what, why or how and all parties fail to gain any real benefit from them. The workshop demonstrates the benefits effective staff appraisals offer to all parties and illustrates the approaches and techniques needed to make appraisals truly effective tools.

For Whom

This interactive workshop has been designed for supervisors and managers responsible for the operation and delivery of appraisal systems. It will also be useful for managers considering implementing and developing appraisal systems within their within organisations.

Aims and Objectives

As a result of attending this workshop participants will:

  • Better understand the principles of appraisal and the benefits they can deliver
  • Explore ways to link appraisals to organisational and business planning
  • Better understand how appraisal can be used effectively in relation to staff performance and development
  • Explore techniques to enhance the effectiveness of appraisals
  • Have the opportunity to explore a range of approaches to appraisal
  • Develop an understanding of how to effectively manage interactions within appraisal meetings
  • How to set effective targets and objectives for staff through appraisal
  • Apply best practice to the appraisal process

Content

Building on their own experiences and expectations of appraisals delegates will begin to explore the real purpose of appraisals, common pitfalls and the techniques and approaches that can be used to enhance appraisal effectiveness. This will include, reviewing past performance, the setting of targets and objectives, together with approaches and techniques to link appraisals to business planning and performance review and continued professional development. The workshop will also explore the use of less frequently used appraisal systems such as 360 degree appraisals. The workshop will look at ways to positively manage the interactions that occur within the appraisal process.

Booking an Event

We would be pleased to work with representatives of sports clubs, organisations to run this event locally to them. Whilst it is possible to run this workshop internally for small groups of people, typicaly costs start at £890 + £50/person + VAT a beter better value route is for a club or organisation to host an event and invite representaives from local organisations to participate at a commercial rate. Indeed this option can often offset the cost of the training to the host organisation and even turn the event into income generating activity.
