Going Green Understanding and Improving Environmental Improvement

Overview

“THE world faces "disastrous" consequences if global warming continues unchecked, Tony Blair warned on October 30th 2006…there was no more urgent issue to be addressed. He said the report by Sir Nicholas Stern had demolished the last remaining argument for inaction in the face of climate change.” (The Scotsman, 30th October 2006)

The rhetoric focuses on urgency, a need for action, and the fearful consequences of doing nothing yet many organisations are doing little to implement green policies and/or enable the next generation how to behave in a more environmentally friendly way.

This workshop aims to do three things:

  1. It will present the issues, the perspectives and scientific view(s).
  2. It will outline a range of potential actions that you can take in your organisation to make a difference (and we’ll look at some of the options for making a difference).
  3. It will focus on ways that you can include messages in Sports teaching and coaching

For Whom

This 1 day workshop is designed for all those involved in the sports and leisure arena interested in improving the impact their and their organisations actions have on the environment and how to enable learners to understand the issues better and act in a responsible manner too.

Aims and Objectives

As a result of attending this workshop participants will:

  1. know where to source information about all perspectives in the environmental debate
  2. be more aware of potential policy choices and options
  3. be aware of different areas and perspectives to focus on – International versus Domestic, Construction, Consumption and Waste
  4. explore awareness campaigns and ways of evaluating the effectiveness of different approaches
  5. relate to opportunities within sports and leisure
  6. look at best practice in the UK, and sources of support and funding

Methods

  • presentations – UK and World data
  • discussions
  • case studies – focusing on Catering, Waste and Energy
  • exercises
  • comparative analysis of their organisation’s practices

Booking an Event

We would be pleased to work with representatives of sports clubs, organisations to run this event locally to them. Whilst it is possible to run this workshop internally for small groups of people, typicaly costs start at £890 + £50/person + VAT a beter better value route is for a club or organisation to host an event and invite representaives from local organisations to participate at a commercial rate. Indeed this option can often offset the cost of the training to the host organisation and even turn the event into income generating activity.
